Eight Canadian cities are among the top 100 cities in the global Crime Index.

Updated: Jun 5

Canada is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, warm hospitality and friendly people.

However, like other countries, Canada has a crime problem.

Despite this, Canada remains one of the safest countries in the world due to its relatively low crime rate.

The Crime Index provides heavily weighted statistics by quantifying the relative frequency and severity of crime across Canada.

According to Numbeo, a global statistical database, eight Canadian cities are among the top 100 cities in the global Crime Index.

The Crime Index assesses the overall number of crimes over the past 36 months.

Areas with scores between 20 and 40 are considered to have low crime rates, while areas below 20 are considered to have very low crime rates.

In contrast, areas with scores between 40 and 60 are considered to have moderate crime rates, while areas with scores between 60 and 80 are considered to have high crime rates.

Areas with scores of 80 or higher have significantly higher crime rates.

Each city was also assigned a "safety index" that assessed the level of risk for residents and visitors.

It's important to remember that despite being in the most violent cities, Canada's crime rate is still relatively low.

So while it's vital to understand these things, it's also important to remember that Canada remains a generally safe place to be.

If planning to move to or visit Canada, it is vital to be aware of your surroundings and stay well informed.

By doing so, you can stay safe while enjoying all that Canada has to offer.
