Updated: Jun 5

According to Thai media reports, Wichai Thaveesin, Acting Director of the Bank of Thailand's Real Estate Information Center (REIC), revealed information about foreign purchases of Thai apartments in 2023.

The number and value of foreign purchases in the Thai property market increased in 2023, indicating a growing interest among foreigners in the Thai real estate market.

Data shows that the average number of apartment transfers in 2023 was 3,600 per quarter, close to the data of 3,300 per quarter during the pandemic, indicating that foreign interest in Thai apartments is returning to normal levels.

Furthermore, according to data provided by Wichai, the number of homes purchased by foreigners in Thailand increased from 10.8% in 2022 to 13.4% in 2023, while the purchase value increased from 20.5% to 24%.

Wichai also mentioned that, according to data from various provinces in 2023, foreigners purchased a total of 14,449 apartments, with a total value of 73.161 billion baht.

Among them, Chonburi Province had the highest number of apartment purchases, accounting for 41.1%, followed by Bangkok at 38.0%.

These two regions accounted for a total of 79.0% of purchases and a staggering 85.4% of the total transaction value.

It's worth noting that in previous years, Bangkok has consistently been the leader in terms of purchase volume, but in 2023, Chonburi Province took its place as the preferred destination for foreigners purchasing Thai apartments.

Regarding statistics on foreign buyers, mainland Chinese buyers remained the main group purchasing Thai properties in 2023, accounting for a high proportion of 45.8%, far surpassing other countries.

Following China are Russia, the United States, Myanmar, and Taiwan (China).

In terms of purchase value, mainland Chinese buyers had the highest purchase value, accounting for 46.7% of the total value, highlighting the significant role of mainland Chinese buyers in the Thai real estate market.

In summary, the situation of foreign purchases of Thai apartments in 2023 shows a certain growth trend, especially in terms of quantity and value.

Mainland Chinese buyers remain the main force in purchasing Thai properties, while buyers from other countries also play important roles in the Thai real estate market.

These data reflect foreigners' continued confidence in the Thai real estate market, injecting new vitality into Thailand's economic development.
