Harvey departs with a sense of melancholy, yet he still carries his dignity, leaving behind a valuable legacy that should not be underestimated.

Updated: Jun 5

Although Harvey did not lead Barcelona to any championships in the 2023/24 season, he left with dignity, leaving behind a valuable legacy.

He nurtured many talented young players such as Kubas, Fermin López, and Ramínguez Amarl, laying the groundwork for his successor, Hans Flick.

After winning the La Liga and Spanish Super Cup double in the 2022/23 season, the 44-year-old Harvey stepped down as Barcelona head coach at the end of the season, a decision made by club president Laporta.

Harvey was praised for his trust in and promotion of La Masia youth products, with emerging stars like Pedri, Gavi, and Alejandro Balde shining under his guidance.

As he departed, Harvey highly praised the young players, especially the scene where Fermin López embraced him affectionately after scoring the winning goal in a crucial battle, which was touching. He stated that if given the choice, he would definitely have Fermin participate in the 2024 European Championship.

He emphasized that Fermin not only had superb technical skills but also had the potential and determination to become a future pillar of Barcelona.

The Spanish national team has also included Fermin in the European Championship squad.

For the 16-year-old prodigy Ramínguez Amarl, Harvey compared him to the legendary figure Messi, praising his extraordinary talent and courage on the offensive end and predicting that he would usher in a new era for the club.

Harvey's former teammate, Fabregas, defended him, stating that he had given many young Barcelona players opportunities and contributed to the club's future.

Although Harvey's departure was regrettable, his good relationship with the players and his nurturing of the younger generation have brought hope to Barcelona.

He believed that young talents like Kubas, Amarl, and Fermin would become the backbone of the club.

What Harvey left behind at the Camp Nou was an emotionally rich, achievement-filled, and challenging coaching experience, along with a valuable legacy he was deeply proud of—an energetic team ready to embrace a brilliant future.

Therefore, although Harvey's departure may have been somewhat regrettable, he was confident that he had built a solid bridge to success for Flick.

It's worth mentioning that upon his departure, Harvey showed his grace by expressing willingness to waive his €12 million compensation but insisted that his assistants should not suffer any losses.
