In 2024, reclaiming the title of the king of ultra-thin watches, Bulgari has set another record for ultra-thinness.

Updated: Jun 5

In 2024, Bulgari once again broke the record for ultra-thin watches, returning to the pinnacle of the ultra-thin watch field.

Over the past 11 years, multiple Swiss brands have continuously refreshed the records for ultra-thin watches, including Piaget, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and the previous record holder Richard Mille (1.75mm).

Now, Bulgari has reclaimed this honor. Let's analyze the advantages of this watch.

### Bulgari's "No Thinnest, Only Thinner"

As a fashion brand, Bulgari has been challenging ultra-thin watchmaking technology since 2014, enhancing the technical content of the brand.

In the past 11 years, Bulgari has broken the ultra-thin record 9 times.

In the modern watch world, if Bulgari humbly claims to be second, few brands dare to claim first place.

In 2017, Bulgari's ultra-thin watch had a thickness of 5.15mm, while seven years later, the thickness of this new watch has been reduced to 1.7mm, showing significant progress.

### The Core Technology of Bulgari

Keeping the watch thickness under 2mm is already an extraordinary achievement.

In the past, many brands pursued ultra-thin watches, and controlling the thickness within 5mm was already difficult.

Today's technological advancements have made reducing the thickness below 5mm possible, thanks to an integrated movement design, which combines the movement components with the dial, using the dial as the movement's plate, making the watch a single unit.

However, integrating the movement and the dial also has its drawbacks, such as lower hardness and a tendency to bend easily.

To address this issue, Bulgari used tungsten carbide, a material with high hardness and wear resistance, for the movement.

Additionally, to achieve the astonishing thickness, they minimized the thickness of the gears and used 170 parts precise to 1/10 of a micron to ensure the overall thinness.

### Practicality of Bulgari's Ultra-Thin Watch

Despite breaking the ultra-thin record, this watch still has strong practicality.

For example, Bulgari passed the COSC Swiss Observatory certification with a thickness of just 1.7mm, proving that it is not only thin but also meets the high standards of Swiss watches in terms of performance and accuracy.

This is the thinnest watch ever to pass the COSC certification.

Bulgari's watch crystal is the same as that of ordinary watches, made of sapphire crystal, but they successfully reduced the crystal thickness to 0.1mm.

The high hardness of sapphire makes it suitable for daily wear.

Bulgari has once again become the king in the field of ultra-thin watches. In the future, if you pay attention to ultra-thin watches, you might want to keep an eye on Bulgari.

Bulgari has successfully transformed from a fashion decorative watch brand to a professional ultra-thin watch brand, making ultra-thin watches an important feature of Bulgari.
