Is a net height of 1.8 meters considered short in Europe and America?

Updated: Jun 16

Today, with the significant increase in height of the younger generation, 1.8 meters has become a very common height online.

However, in fact, based on the current situation in our country, people who are 1.8 meters tall are still considered tall, at least in the top 10%.

Please note that what we are referring to here is net height, not including hair and shoe soles.

Many people often falsely report their height. Originally, they only had a net height of 175, with a sole of 2 centimeters and a hair of 3 centimeters. Isn't that 1.8 meters?

So, aside from the height of the sole and hair, the true 1.8 meters is still considered high in China!

So, is a net height of 1.8 meters considered short or tall in Europe and America?

Actually, this cannot be generalized, after all, Europe and America are a very large and broad concept!

In my personal opinion, the commonly used term for Europe and America generally refers to dozens of Western countries such as Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc., with a total population of over 1 billion and diverse races. Even if only white people are included, there are many ethnic groups with different heights.

Therefore, 1.8 meters can be considered high in some regions of Europe and America, average in some areas, and even slightly short in some areas!

A net height of 1.8 meters is considered tall in most southern European countries!

The Southern European countries referred to here mainly refer to countries around the Mediterranean such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Malta, with the main ethnic group being Latin white.

These countries can be considered as the height "depression" of European white people.

The average height of adult males in Italy is 1.77 meters, which is definitely smaller compared to Northwest and Central Europe, but it is the highest among southern European countries.

The average height of adult males in Spain is only 1.73 meters, even lower than some Asian regions!

In Portugal, which is further south, the average height of adult males is less than 1.74 meters.

As for Malta, an obscure and niche country, no official data has been found. It is rumored online that its average male height is less than 1.7 meters, which is indeed a bit short!

So you see, among the countries in southern Europe, the tallest Italian man averages only 1.77 meters, which is three centimeters shorter than 1.8 meters.

Spain and Portugal, on the other hand, are even shorter by more than five centimeters and do not belong to the same level at all.

Therefore, if your net height is truly 1.8 meters, then going to these southern European countries definitely counts as tall!

The average height is over 1.7 meters, which means that at least half of the people are at 1.7 meters or even below.

1.8 meters is considered above average in the UK, France, and the US!

Among the major powers in Europe and America, the French are the shortest in height, perhaps because they have too many Gallic and Latin ancestry mixed together! 1.8 meters is still considered tall in France, but it cannot widen the gap.

And the height of young people in France is similar to that of middle-aged and elderly people, while the height of the younger generation in our country is far ahead of the older generation!

This indicates that the nutritional intake of the French has been very good for a long time, making the height difference between young people and the older generation very small!

The height of British people is slightly higher than that of French people, and the average height of young men is about 1.78 meters.

The characteristic here in the UK is that the tall ones are particularly tall, and the short ones are also very short! There are many tall people who are 1.85 meters or even 1.9 meters tall, but at the same time, there is also a small person who is less than 170 meters tall.

Therefore, 1.8 meters is also the "perfect height" that many boys envy in the UK!

The situation in the United States is relatively more complex, mainly because there are too many races in the country to make a general comparison. For Latinos and Asians, 1.8 meters is a very high level;

For African Americans, 1.8 meters is considered a moderate height; For white people, 1.8 meters falls between the middle and upper middle range.

In most parts of the United States, 1.8 meters is considered a small presence in Asian or Hispanic communities. But when it comes to black or white communities, this height is at the level of a very ordinary person and not very impressive!

In Germany, the Netherlands, and the Balkans, a height of 1.8 meters has no advantage!

The height of Germans is really outstanding, especially in the low German speaking areas to the north, where the average height of adult males can reach 181-182!

It can be seen that 1.8 meters is lower than the local average height, which can only be considered as a relatively short level! Many German women approach 1.8 meters in height, so 1.8 meters really has no advantage in Germany.

The Netherlands, which is taller than Germany, is also the country with the highest average height in the world. The average height of adult males in the Netherlands can reach 183-184, making it a safe "land of giants"! This means that at least half of men in the Netherlands are 185 meters tall or above, and 1.8 meters is not enough to look at in the Netherlands!

In addition, the Balkan region located in Southeast Europe is also like a forest of people!

The average height of Serbia and Montenegro is not inferior to that of Germany and the Netherlands! The average height of males over there is also over 1.8 meters, while females are generally over 1.7 meters, which is really the average person with long legs!
