Islam ruled India for 600 years, but today Hinduism remains the predominant religion.

Updated: Jun 6

In the perception of Indians, individuals are often seen as superior beings, regardless of their national status, depending more on the individual's spiritual beliefs.

Whether ruled by the Delhi Sultanate for 600 years or the Mughal Empire, or colonized by Britain for 100 years, these seem inconsequential to Indians.

India's religious beliefs have ancient origins, dating back to the appearance of Brahmanism or the Vedic religion ten thousand years ago, or the birth of Buddhism two thousand years ago.

The religious beliefs of Indians have been deeply rooted, cleansing their national spirit.

Debating holds a significant place in Indian culture.

Throughout Indian history, many religious sages have appeared, leaving behind many religious scriptures, making Indians particularly skilled in debate.

This tradition can be traced back to the ancient spread of Buddhism.

The theories of logic in Tibetan Buddhism today have a profound tradition of debate, while the sharp debates of Zen Buddhism in China are also influenced by this.

Indians are accustomed to drawing wisdom from the debating traditions of Brahmanism or Buddhism.

In contrast, monotheistic religions in the Middle East lack a tradition of debate.

Whether it's Judaism, Christianity, or Islam, they only believe in one scripture and have not formed a debating tradition like India's.

Therefore, they often find themselves at a disadvantage in debates.

Secular power plays an important role in India.

Historically, Islam used military means to eradicate Indian Buddhism. Indian Buddhist monks were powerless against the political and military power of Islam.

Hinduism, on the other hand, is closely linked to secular power. The scattered states of India made it difficult for Islam to invade easily. Sultan Mahmud of the Ghaznavid dynasty repeatedly attempted to conquer India but suffered heavy losses.

In 2001, India held a Kumbh Mela, attended by 30 million people, shocking in its scale.

Today, the Modi government is reconsolidating the power of Hinduism, seeking to suppress other religions with the strength of 1 billion Hindus.

This even includes the assassination of Sikh leaders, indicating the Indian government's control over religion.

It can be seen that India has become the mainstream due to its rich religious tradition.
