John Caudwell, co-founder of the UK's largest mobile phone retailer "Phones 4u," has called the current British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, an "absolute idiot."

Recently, John Caudwell, co-founder of Britain's largest mobile phone retailer "Phones 4u," announced that he would no longer support the Conservative Party and instead switch his allegiance to the Labour Party.

This move has caused a stir in British politics.

Caudwell praised Keir Starmer's reforms within the Labour Party and publicly described current Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as "an absolute idiot."

This billionaire's decision marks his first-time support for the Labour Party, having previously backed the Conservatives for over 50 years.

Caudwell's decision has garnered widespread media attention.

In the 2019 general election, he donated £500,000 (approximately ¥4.61 million) to the Conservative Party.

His announcement undoubtedly deals a significant blow to Sunak, who is already struggling politically and economically.

According to a June 18th report, the latest Ipsos poll suggests that the Labour Party is poised to secure the largest majority of seats of any post-war government, while the Conservatives may face their most devastating defeat in history.

In an interview, Caudwell stated, "For many years, I have been disappointed with the performance of the Conservative Party, which I supported for 51 years."

"Just five years ago, I donated £500,000 to the Conservatives to help prevent the disaster of Jeremy Corbyn entering Downing Street," he said.

In a statement published in The Huffington Post, Caudwell elaborated on his numerous criticisms of the Conservative Party, particularly condemning Sunak's poor economic management, Boris Johnson's loss of moral compass, and the Conservatives' unethical profiteering during the procurement of COVID-19 personal protective equipment (PPE).

He also referenced the brief tenure of Liz Truss as Prime Minister for just 44 days as another example of Conservative mismanagement.

Caudwell expressed surprise at how Keir Starmer has reformed the Labour Party over the past two years, pulling it back from the edge left by Jeremy Corbyn.

He voiced his satisfaction with Labour's manifesto focus on economic growth and aspirations to make Britain a "clean energy superpower."

"Therefore, I can publicly announce that I will be voting for the Labour Party, and I encourage everyone to do the same," he said.

Caudwell further emphasized, "We need a very strong Labour government that can make extremely bold decisions. Rest assured, I will do everything in my power to influence them and restore Britain's glory."

In response to Caudwell's switch to supporting the Labour Party, Keir Starmer said, "I am pleased that John, someone with such a successful business career, has today expressed his support for the reforms I am leading in the Labour Party."

"The message is clear: the business community supports Labour's reform and economic stability, and opposes the Conservatives' five years of chaos and decline," Starmer added.

Starmer's response not only affirmed Caudwell's support but also underscored the Labour Party's importance in the current political environment.

The Labour Party has been committed to a series of reforms aimed at revitalizing the British economy, improving social welfare, and promoting environmental protection.

Starmer stated, "Labour's goal is to provide a better quality of life for the British people, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to succeed and creating a sustainable future for future generations."

Over the past few years, Britain has experienced a series of political and economic upheavals.

From the Brexit referendum to the COVID-19 pandemic, and multiple changes in Prime Ministers, the Conservative Party's leadership has been widely questioned.

The Johnson government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the scandal surrounding the procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE), has sparked strong public dissatisfaction.

Many believe that the Conservative government has serious issues in handling public funds, resulting in waste of resources and fostering corruption.

In addition, although Sunak has some experience in economic management as the current Prime Minister, his policies and decisions have frequently been criticized.

Weak economic growth, high inflation, and pressing social issues have contributed to the declining support for the Conservative Party.

Since coming to power, Sunak has attempted to reverse the situation through a series of reforms, but the results have not been significant, leading to more dissatisfaction and opposition.

In this context, the Labour Party, under Keir Starmer's leadership, has gradually reshaped its image.

During his tenure as Labour leader, Starmer has actively promoted internal reforms, abandoned some extreme policies of the past, and returned to the center ground, attracting increasing support from moderate voters.

Starmer's pragmatic approach and focus on economic growth have gradually earned recognition from both the business community and the public.

As a representative of the business community, Caudwell's switch undoubtedly adds more chips to the Labour Party's favor.

Caudwell expressed confidence in Labour's economic policies, believing that Starmer has the ability to lead Britain out of its current predicament and revive economic prosperity.

He particularly highlighted Labour's policies on clean energy, which could make Britain a global "clean energy superpower," benefiting environmental protection and driving the development of related industries, creating a large number of job opportunities.

At the same time, Caudwell emphasized that supporting the Labour Party does not mean abandoning oversight of the government.

He stated that as a socially responsible entrepreneur, he would continue to monitor the implementation of government policies to ensure they truly benefit the people.

He called for more entrepreneurs and the public to participate in political activities to jointly promote progress and development in Britain.

In response, Starmer said he welcomed Caudwell's support and vowed to continue pushing for reforms to ensure that a Labour government fulfills its promises to the people.

He emphasized that Labour is committed to building a fairer, more prosperous, and sustainable society, creating a better future for every British citizen.

John Caudwell's support for the Labour Party marks a significant shift in British politics.

With Labour gradually consolidating its lead in the polls, the future political landscape could undergo significant changes.

Nevertheless, the British people hope to see a more stable and prosperous country, requiring joint efforts and cooperation from all parties.
