On June 19th, Russia stated that Estonia does not have any military personnel to send to Ukraine.

On June 19, 2024, Russian State Duma representative Alexei Chepa, in an interview with Russian media,

made a series of comments regarding the possibility of Estonia sending military personnel to Ukraine, sparking widespread attention and discussion.

Chepa first emphasized the complexity and necessary conditions for deploying troops.

He argued that any country intending to send troops must undergo strict recruitment, training, and readiness processes.

However, he expressed doubts about Estonia's capability, suggesting that the country lacks a genuinely well-trained and combat-ready military force.

He warned that even if military personnel were sent to Ukraine, they would likely end up as cannon fodder rather than effective combatants.

Regarding statements made by Estonian Ambassador to Ukraine Anneli Kolk, Chepa criticized her remarks as politically biased.

Kolk had previously indicated that deploying troops was not Estonia's red line, implying the country might consider such a move pending consultation and unified stance with NATO, the EU, and relevant domestic departments.

Chepa criticized Kolk's statements, suggesting they may be influenced by Baltic states and certain Western political forces.

He highlighted the current tense international situation, where statements and actions in military and diplomatic policies are particularly sensitive and crucial.

Furthermore, Chepa specifically underscored Estonia's current military capabilities, arguing that the country lacks sufficient resources and strength to support wartime operations, let alone deploying troops to participate in conflicts abroad.

His comments directly pointed out numerous deficiencies in Estonia's military investment and defense system development.

For Russia, the issue of Ukraine has been a top priority in national security and geopolitical strategy.

The Russian government and its related departments have repeatedly strongly opposed Western intervention and support in Ukraine, believing such actions undermine regional stability and peace.

Under broad international scrutiny, the conflict in Ukraine has evolved from a regional security issue into a critical factor in global strategic and political balance.

For all countries involved, managing the Ukraine issue to safeguard national interests without exacerbating regional tensions presents an exceedingly complex and challenging diplomatic and security challenge.

Chepa's remarks highlight the critical and sensitive nature of the positions and actions taken by all parties involved in addressing the Ukraine issue within the current tense international backdrop.

Whether Estonia will indeed send military personnel to Ukraine and the political and strategic considerations behind such a potential action will undoubtedly become crucial topics and focal points on the future international stage.
