The IOC is in deep trouble, the Russian Friendship Games.

Updated: Jun 5

Recently, the leaders of the International Olympic Committee have faced an unprecedented challenge.

The upcoming Paris Olympic Games has unexpectedly fallen into the embarrassing situation of insufficient number of participating countries and athletes, which is undoubtedly an embarrassing and serious problem for the Olympic Games, which has always been large-scale and internationally influential.

And the cause of all this, to start with the friendship Games launched by Russia.

The games, hosted by Russia, attracted a large number of athletes to participate with their rich prize money, superior treatment and first-class competition environment.

Especially for some athletes from developing countries, this is undoubtedly a rare opportunity.

This sudden competition for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games, is undoubtedly worse.

Ioc executives are keen to find a way back through coordination with national sports organisations and are also thinking about how to make the Games more attractive and avoid being upstaged by the Friendly Games.

However, the predicament also reflects some of the IOC's own problems.

We can't just blame Russia for the Friendly Games. The IOC should also rethink its own problems, including the way the Games are organized, the development opportunities for athletes, and even whether the core values of the Games themselves are still attractive.

Faced with this situation, the International Olympic Committee must act.

They need to strengthen communication with the athletes and pay attention to their real needs and ideas, because the athletes are the core of the Olympic Games, without their participation, the Olympic Games will lose its meaning.

At the same time, the IOC should also learn from the experience of international organizations such as the World Anti-Doping Agency to further regulate management and ensure the fairness and transparency of competitions.

More importantly, the IOC needs to work closely with governments and sports organizations around the world to elevate the level of sports and make sports a bridge connecting the world.

Only in this way can we ensure that the core values of the Games - fairness, friendship and solidarity - are not undermined by money and external inducements.

To sum up, the IOC is now faced with a serious challenge and needs to reflect deeply on itself and take positive measures to ensure the success of the Olympic Games and the continuity of core values.

On a global scale, sports are not only a form of entertainment, but also a bridge of cultural exchanges, friendship and cooperation, and the IOC must play a more active role in this process to promote the development and progress of world sports.
