With few exceptions, the fastest-growing cities in the US are concentrated in the southern region, with Texas particularly standing out in this population surge.
According to reports from NEXSTAR Media, data from the US Census Bureau indicates that out of the fastest-growing 15 cities between July 1, 2022, and July 1, 2023, 13 are located in the warm southern region, with Texas claiming 8 of those spots.
Among these cities, Selma near Dallas, Texas, leads with an astonishing growth rate of 26.6%, far exceeding the national average growth rate by 53 times.
Other Texas cities such as Fulshear, Princeton, Anna, Georgetown, Prosper, Forney, and Kyle also make the list due to their significant population growth.
While most are in the South, non-southern cities like Las Lomas in California and Athens in Ohio are also notable for their population growth, although at rates lower than those in the South.
In terms of actual population growth numbers, San Antonio and Fort Worth in Texas are particularly prominent examples.
San Antonio leads with an increase of 21,970 people, followed closely by Fort Worth with 21,365.
Charlotte, North Carolina, also ranks high with an increase of 15,607 people.
