The latest data from the US Census Bureau shows which states are experiencing population decline and where population growth is fastest.

The latest data from the US Census Bureau shows that population growth in the southern region of the United States is rapidly accelerating.

With few exceptions, the fastest-growing cities in the US are concentrated in the southern region, with Texas particularly standing out in this population surge.

According to reports from NEXSTAR Media, data from the US Census Bureau indicates that out of the fastest-growing 15 cities between July 1, 2022, and July 1, 2023, 13 are located in the warm southern region, with Texas claiming 8 of those spots.

Among these cities, Selma near Dallas, Texas, leads with an astonishing growth rate of 26.6%, far exceeding the national average growth rate by 53 times.

Other Texas cities such as Fulshear, Princeton, Anna, Georgetown, Prosper, Forney, and Kyle also make the list due to their significant population growth.

While most are in the South, non-southern cities like Las Lomas in California and Athens in Ohio are also notable for their population growth, although at rates lower than those in the South.

In terms of actual population growth numbers, San Antonio and Fort Worth in Texas are particularly prominent examples.

San Antonio leads with an increase of 21,970 people, followed closely by Fort Worth with 21,365.

Charlotte, North Carolina, also ranks high with an increase of 15,607 people.

Behind this population growth phenomenon lies the crucial role of international migration.

According to the US Census Bureau, over 1.13 million foreigners chose to move to the US between July 1, 2022, and July 1, 2023, injecting new vitality into various states across the country.

Florida, California, Texas, New York, and Massachusetts have been the top destinations for these new foreign residents, attracting dreams and aspirations from around the globe.

However, recent prosperity in these areas has not been without challenges.

Houston, Texas, once known for its prosperity and vibrancy, has recently suffered severe setbacks from natural disasters.

Storm damage has led to power outages, leaving hundreds of thousands of households and businesses in distress.

While power companies are working urgently to restore service, many people are still without regular electricity, facing significant challenges in their daily lives.

Parents, in particular, are anxious about the prolonged outages affecting their children's education and family life.

In response, the Houston city government and Harris County have swiftly opened cooling centers to support affected residents.

Simultaneously, power companies are striving to repair the grid comprehensively to restore power as soon as possible, although the recovery process is complex and time-consuming due to the widespread nature of the outages.

Despite these difficulties, Texans and other southern cities continue to grow rapidly, buoyed by international migration that continues to infuse new energy into these regions.

The prosperity of these cities not only reflects their attractiveness and development potential but also showcases the resilience and unity of local communities in the face of adversity.
