The top ten strategically important countries in the world

Updated: Jun 17

1. Afghanistan

Afghanistan is located in Central Asia and is a necessary passage for ancient land exchanges between the East and the West, as well as the heart of Asia.

There have been many famous wars in history over Afghanistan, such as the Battle of Talas between the Tang Dynasty and Abbas, the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, and the American invasion of Afghanistan.

With the withdrawal of the US military, although Afghanistan has gradually returned to a stable state, due to its religious governance and conservative policies, Afghanistan is now almost still in a state of seclusion. It may take some time to restore its former position as a major channel of communication between the East and the West.

2. Panama

Panama is located at the confluence of South and North America, serving as the throat of the entire American continent. The Panama Canal within its borders is also the shortest international waterway connecting the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

Panama, due to its important geographical location, not only serves as a pivot for North and South America, but also guards the Panama Canal, the shortest shipping route between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. It was once a Spanish colony in history.

Later, in order to gain independence from Colombia, Panama sold control of the Panama Canal in exchange for the support of the United States, and the sovereignty of the Panama Canal was thus stolen by the United States.

Until now, the United States still has heavy troops stationed in the Panama Canal region, exerting its influence on the Panama Canal.

3. Türkiye

Türkiye is located at the intersection of Western Asia and Southern Europe. It is the land pivot of Asia, Europe and Africa, and also controls the export of the Black Sea region.

Türkiye's geographical location is extremely important, and it has always been a place of war in history. The once famous Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Türkiye Empire have established political power here.

Now Türkiye, the Ottoman successor, also relies on its excellent geographical position to infiltrate into the NATO front, taking advantage of European and American countries and becoming a hegemon in the Middle East.

4. Ukraine

Ukraine is located in the Eastern European region, the heart of the Eurasian continent, and also a battleground for military strategists in history.

In the history of Ukraine, the famous Kyiv Rus Duchy appeared until the arrival of the Mongolian prince Batu, who occupied Ukraine and established a strong Golden Horde in the surrounding areas. Later, it experienced the southward movement of the Lithuanian Duchy, the rise of Tsarist Russia, and Ukraine eventually became one of the Soviet Union's member states.

In the past two years, Ukraine, located in the heart of Asia and Europe, has completely turned to Western countries, disrupting the balance of power between Europe, America, and Russia in Eastern Europe, triggering the "Russia Ukraine War". Today, Ukraine is still deeply mired in the quagmire of war.

5. Egypt

Egypt is located in the northeast region of Africa and is the only land passage from ancient Eurasia to Africa. It is also a battleground for military strategists in history.

Egypt is the birthplace of one of the four great civilizations in history, the ancient Egyptian civilization. It is home to famous pyramids and pharaohs, guarding the Sinai Peninsula, a land route for Asia and Africa, and the Suez Canal, a major maritime route.

Egypt, due to its important geographical location, was once controlled by Britain during the Western colonial era. Later, it gained independence and regained ownership of the Suez Canal.

Due to Egypt's important geographical location and the influence of various forces, it is a hidden arena for major powers to engage in conflicts, and its domestic situation remains unstable.

6. Somalia

Somalia is located in the Somali Peninsula region of East Africa, guarding the Red Sea export to the Gulf of Aden to the north and affecting shipping safety in the Arabian Sea to the east. It is particularly important in today's era where sea transportation is still the mainstay.

Somalia was once famous for producing spices in its history. It was a famous place for importing spices during Zheng He's voyages to the West. Later, it was controlled by British colonizers and although it gained independence, it remained in a state of warlord warfare.

The chaos among Somali warlords, coupled with their important geographical location, has also spawned the world's most notorious "Somali" pirates, ultimately forcing most ships in the world to bypass the Somali region and establish military bases in neighboring Djibouti to protect the safe passage of merchant ships in Africa and the Red Sea region.

7. Iran

Iran is located in the Middle East region, guarding the valve of nearly half of the world's oil and gas resources, the Strait of Hormuz, and its strategic position is also extremely important.

Iran was a famous Persian kingdom in history and was later colonized by imperialism. Today, relying on its abundant oil and gas resources, it has become one of the top four in the Middle East.

Iran is one of the few countries in the world that dares to openly challenge the United States, and Iran's confidence in challenging the United States is due to its control of the Strait of Hormuz.

If the Strait of Hormuz is blocked, more than half of the world's oil and gas imports will be seriously affected, which is also the reason why the United States dare not easily take action against Iran.

8. Denmark

Denmark is located in the Nordic region and serves as the gateway to the Baltic Sea, the economic lifeline of the Nordic region. Its strategic position is extremely important.

In Danish history, the famous Kingdom of the Kalmar League was established in the Nordic region, and the fairy tales we read as children were created by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.

Due to its important geographical location and fear of being involved in war, Denmark once chose neutrality in the midst of various forces competing. However, "Piff is innocent and innocent", and Denmark could not always rely on neutrality to stand out. During World War II, it was also inevitable that it was occupied by Nazi Germany at that time.

9. Spain

Spain is located in the Iberian Peninsula region of southwestern Europe, guarding the exports of the Mediterranean and the shortest route between Europe and Africa. Its strategic position is also extremely important.

In the 16th century, Spain became the world's largest colonial country through Columbus's global exploration, until it was later replaced by Britain.

Due to the decline of the Kingdom of Spain in its later years, it not only lost a large number of overseas colonies, but also occupied the strategic southern territory of Gibraltar by Britain.

However, Spain still retained control of the northwest region of Africa, known as Sebtai, and held absolute discourse power over Mediterranean exports.

10. Singapore

Singapore is located in the Southeast Asian region, guarding the export of the Strait of Malacca, and its strategic position is extremely important.

In the history of Singapore, it belonged to the Johor Kingdom on the Malay Peninsula, until a large number of Fujian and Guangdong immigrants settled on the Malay Peninsula. In addition, the Malaysian government's expulsion of these immigrants forced them to concentrate in Singapore.

At that time, the entire Malay Peninsula was almost a British colony. Later, due to Malaysia's independence from British colonization, the British did not want to easily lose control of the Malacca Strait, the most important maritime strategic passage in East Asia. They supported these foreign immigrants and established Singapore, one of the Commonwealth member countries, to compete with Malaysia.
