"The world's last remaining unclimbed peak, with a 100% fatality rate for attempted ascents."

Updated: Jun 5

"In 1991, a joint Chinese-Japanese mountaineering team encountered an unknown disaster on Mount Meili, resulting in the disappearance of all 17 members overnight, with no trace left behind.

Later, some attributed this to natural disasters, while others believed it to be the curse of the mountain deity.

However, seven years later, the remains and belongings of the climbers miraculously appeared, with one mountaineering diary containing exceptionally eerie contents, sending shivers down one's spine.

Since then, this peak has been designated as a forbidden area by the authorities, and to this day, no one dares to summit it.

What exactly happened to the climbers back then? What mysteries does this peak hold?

Mount Meili, located in Yunnan Province, China, is actually a snow mountain range composed of multiple peaks, including 13 peaks with elevations exceeding 6000 meters, known as the 'Thirteen Prince Peaks of Meili.'

Kawagebo Peak is the highest peak among them, reaching an altitude of 6740 meters, and it is called the 'God of Snow Mountains' due to its snowy appearance.

According to local legends, Kawagebo Peak was once a demon mountain, until the appearance of the Tibetan Buddhist master Lianhua Shengda, who turned it into a deity and began to protect the local people.

Therefore, for the Tibetan people, this snow mountain is sacred and inviolable, to be revered but not to be tread upon or climbed at will, as doing so would incur punishment.

However, for some atheists and mountaineering enthusiasts, this belief is difficult to understand, as they see mountains as objects to be climbed and conquered.

In 1902, the first group of climbers arrived at this snow mountain, but none succeeded in reaching the summit, adding to the mystery of the sacred mountain.

In the winter of 1990, a joint Chinese-Japanese mountaineering team decided to challenge this snow mountain. They were well-prepared and experienced, but faced strong opposition from the locals.

However, on December 8, 1991, they still proceeded with their climbing activities. Little did they know that the so-called 'curse' would indeed come true.

On January 4, 1991, they suddenly lost contact, and despite extensive search efforts, no traces were found.

Seven years later, the remains and equipment of the climbers were discovered by local herdsmen at the foot of the mountain, including a mountaineering diary that revealed the truth behind the entire incident.

The diary described the difficulties and fears they encountered during the ascent, including sudden weather changes, avalanches, as well as some incredible sights and sounds.

There are different interpretations of this event, with some attributing it to the punishment of the mountain deity, while others analyze possible reasons from a scientific perspective.

In 2001, the relevant authorities officially prohibited climbing Mount Meili, making it a taboo area.

Although the mystery surrounding Mount Meili still remains unknown, we should respect nature and maintain awe and caution towards it.

The mystery of Mount Meili is not just about a mountaineering accident, but also a manifestation of the insignificance, fragility, and unpredictability of human civilization in the face of natural forces.

Whether it's the curse of the mountain deity from legends or avalanches and extreme weather from a scientific perspective, these remind us that humans can never contend with nature.

In modern society, Mount Meili has become a tourist attraction, but its mystery and taboo still persist.

This existence is not just a natural phenomenon, but also a symbol of human awe and respect for the forces of nature.

Therefore, Mount Meili is not just a snow mountain, but also a symbol of human reverence and respect for the forces of nature."
