Number 8: India. 1 soup cup.
India have only one final in the history of the Tongyu Cup, but this performance has made them the new stars of the Tongyu Cup.
In the 2022 Toms Cup in Bangkok, they swept away Toms Cup overlords Indonesia with a 3-0 score.
It was not only their first win in the final, but also their sixth in Thomas Cup history.
Number 7: Denmark. 1 soup cup.
Denmark is the only strong badminton team in Europe, but they have only one experience of winning the Tongyu Cup.
In the 2016 Kunshan Tongyou Cup, it was their eighth soup Cup final and their first win.
The Danish women's team has reached three Uber Cup finals, but could not win.
Number 6: South Korea. Two Eucups.
As an old badminton powerhouse, South Korea has performed well in the Olympic Games and world Championships, but it has not performed well in the Tongyu Cup.
At the 2010 Uber Cup in Kuala Lumpur, they won the Tongyu Cup for the first time, beating Russia, Japan and China 3-1 in a row.
In the 2022 Uber Cup in Bangkok, China and South Korea met again in the final, and despite Chen Yufei's narrow victory over An Shuying in the women's singles duel, South Korea still defeated China 3-2 to win the cup.
In addition, South Korea has been runner-up seven times.
Number 5: The United States. Three Eucups.
The USA Badminton team is not prominent in the sport today, but it was a world-class team in the 1950s. At the 1952 Thomas Cup, the United States reached the final, but eventually lost to Malaysia.
In the Uber Cup, the United States did even better.
In 1957, 1960 and 1963, they defeated Denmark 6-1 and England 5-2, respectively, to win the Uber Cup three times in a row.
Number 4: Malaysia. 5 soup cups.
Malaysia's women's badminton team is relatively weak and has never reached the final of the Uber Cup.
But in the Thomas Cup, they did quite well.
They won the trophy in 1949, 1952 and 1955, beating Indonesia 6:3 to win the trophy again in 1967, and defeated China and Indonesia 3-2 to win the trophy for the fifth time in 1992, which was the last time Malaysia won the Thomas Cup.
The Malaysian team also has a record of finishing second nine times, most recently in 2014.
Number 3: Japan. One soup, six yucks.
Japan's men's badminton team has always been weak.
Apart from the just mentioned victory over Malaysia in 2014, they have only reached the final once at the Bangkok Soup Cup in 2018, where they lost 3-1 to China.
Japan has a strong women's badminton team, which has achieved three consecutive championships in 1966, 1969 and 1972, and two more in 1978 and 1981.
In the 2018 Bangkok UB Cup, the final score of 3:0 swept the host Thai team to win the cup for the sixth time.
Number 2: Indonesia. 14 soup cups, 3 yucks.
Indonesia is the dominant team in the Thomas Cup, having achieved three, four and five consecutive championships.
In the last 20 years, they have won the Aarhus Tang Cup only once in 2020, beating Malaysia 3-0 and Denmark 3-1 before clinching the title for the 14th time with a 3-0 win over Lu Guangzu's China.
In the Uber Cup, the Indonesian team's performance is relatively weak, apart from winning in 1975, they have only won the title twice, in 1994 and 1996, the peak of Wang Lianxiang's victory against China.
Number 1: China. Ten soup cups, 15 yucks.
China is unquestionably the dominant team in the Tongyou Cup.
They are second only to Indonesia in the Toms Cup, having won it three times in a row.
China won five consecutive championships between 2004 and 2012.
They have only won the title once since, in 2018.
In the Uber Cup, the performance of the Chinese team is even more amazing, they have achieved five consecutive championships.
From 1998 to 2008, they achieved a six-peat, and from 2012 to 2016, they won another three-peat.
However, in recent years, the Chinese women's team's dominance in singles and doubles has not been obvious, and they have only won the title once, beating Japan 3-1 in 2020.
